Apple Allows Sex-Trade App

May 26, 2011

A new app will be released on June 1. This is no ordinary app - it will use GPS and smart phone technology so that "sugar daddies" can find "sugar babies." The site claims that women will never have to worry about money again and men can find the beautiful women they've been looking to give their money to.

According to their website, "SugarSugar.com is for generous men looking to spoil, and dynamic women looking for financial support with bills, or who just need some excitement in life! Started by a real sugar baby, SugarSugar.com only accepts true, proven sugar daddies and sugar babies, and provides a staff of sugar dating experts to help you find the perfect mutually beneficial arrangement."

Many are questioning how the app slipped through the Apple's app store approval process. Digital Life outlines the five guidelines this new app practically violates:

16.1 Apps that present excessively objectionable or crude content will be rejected
[...]
18.1 Apps containing pornographic material, defined by Webster's Dictionary as "explicit descriptions or displays of sexual organs or activities intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings", will be rejected
18.2 Apps that contain user generated content that is frequently pornographic (ex "Chat Roulette" apps) will be rejected
[...]
22.1 Apps must comply with all legal requirements in any location where they are made available to users. It is the developer's obligation to understand and conform to all local laws
22.3 Apps that solicit, promote, or encourage criminal or clearly reckless behavior will be rejected
The app will use GPS technology to detect other members of the SugarSugar app in their area for them to more easily connect. Allowing this app not only opens new doors for prostitution among adults, but it gives sex traffickers a new resource to exploit their victims.
